In The Archive: Gil Scott Heron

I feel lucky to have been introduced to Gil Scott Heron’s music at the fairly young age of 15. It showed me the importance of using your voice as an artist to empower people. Watching his health deteriorate in his later years broke my heart as he was my hero. I even got to see him perform live in Philly in 2000 or so. He was in poor shape physically but he was still as iconic as ever to me. RIP GIl Scott Heron and thank you for inspiring many generations to come.
