ill! Lounge No. 15

20+ years ago, I started doing a series of mixes that were intended to be played pretty much anywhere except for a typical club environment. So much of my thought process as a DJ, since the age of 12 has been around how to make people react and move. However I noticed that the musical vibe and curation (if any) at most coffee shops, restaurants, hotels, etc. were often struggling so I wanted to put together a taste maker’s playlist. Something that felt like a nighttime drive to the beach. Something that sounded timeless and classic and modern and international. Something not designed to turn the place up but something to do the opposite. Make you sit in a comfy lounge chair and nod your head to the grooves. Some of these mixes became quite popular in certain parts of the world but as we know, nothing stays the same for long.

So here we are in 2024 and the mixtape is pretty much a thing of a golden era but not something most people have the time to put on a consume. Mixes are instead alive and well on Youtube. So here is installment No. 15 of IVC Lounge, The Collection, now simplified to a new title ill! Lounge, done in 1 take from my living room in Los Angeles, CA.
